WeSpace Whole Body Mystical Awakening
“WeSpace” is a new form of spiritual practice and community that is on the forefront of the evolving spiritual landscape of today. Recognizing the hyper-individualization of not only Western society and American culture, but also the individualization of the interior experience of the forms spiritual practice, many are seeing the need for a higher, more evolved “WE.” Various forms are emerging in many different places to more intentionally engage in collective wisdom and interconnected healing.
If you’re familiar at all with Integral Christian Network, you’ve certainly heard us talk about WeSpace. It is the heart of what we do currently because we have recognized some deep spiritual needs of evolving Christians that, for the most part, aren’t being addressed by the institutional church. These are the need for spaces of mystical practice and discovery, for safe communities of belonging for those who’ve outgrown traditional forms of church belief and practice, and for collective engagement with others that tap into the deeper spiritual realities of oneness between us.
In group settings, most people are more familiar with placing on “object” in the middle so to speak. Something to talk about and discuss. That or practicing alone together—doing our own individual practice in the company of others. Our WeSpace groups are focused on practice together more than discussion or solo practice, because our heart consciousness often needs further development than our mind understanding. And the heart is inherently relational.
The WeSpace form of the Whole Body Mystical Awakening practice combines our development of our centers of spiritual knowing with the group experiences of connection, interbeing, and emergence (see goals at the end). When we engage in this with others, it actually expands our own inner capacities as well. It is a dance between the space within and the space among.
We learn this practice by experiencing it more than acquiring the concepts, but here is the description of the process. If you want to experience it yourself, sign up for a WeSpace group!
This practice is specifically tailored to be done with at least one other person, though it can also be done with God’s motherly/fatherly presence, Jesus, and/or spiritual guides. It is a dance of the collective body, flowing between the space within and the shared space among all those who are present in one way or another. These are the initial six “dance steps,” with the potential for improvisation in time.
1. Heart Radiating Within
Begin by taking a few deep breaths into your heart space. Allow yourself to sink down into the radiant center of your heart. Here your heart emanates with a strong energy of love and bliss, whether felt or not. If you need help getting there, you can think of someone you love, or tap into love through receiving the loving presence of God, Jesus, or your spiritual guides.
2. Heart Connection Among
Move your awareness from within your heart and out into the shared space of the group. Feel your heart opening to the energy field in the space between one another. This first time, experience the heart connection that you have to the others present. You can often feel this by focusing on each person one by one, or also by focusing your heart flow into the shared group energy field.
3. Feet Grounding Within
Return back to your individual self and move your awareness down to your feet. Plant them down firmly and ground yourself to the earth. You can imagine roots growing out from your feet, tapping you into the energy of the earth and even the whole cosmos itself. Breathe that energy up through your feet and into your legs. Experience the energetic charge you receive from connecting to divine material reality.
4. Spiritual Womb Being Within
Keeping your feet connection to the earth open, move up into your gut space, your spiritual womb. You may want to place your hands over your belly and untuck your tummy into a resting state. In this space, sink into your ground of being and allow yourself to just be. Sometimes intuitions or creative outflow arise.
5. Heart Interbeing Among
Now continue drawing energy from the earth, through your spiritual womb and rising up into your open heart. Let it flow right out into the WeSpace again, into the space among the group. This time, recognize that each person is connected to the same earth, to the same divine material reality. The same energy flows through all. We are not separate from one another. We are not separate from God. Almost at a deeper than cellular level, feel you interbeing with one another.
6. Head Stillness Within and Transcendence Beyond
Return to your heart within and move up to your head. Connected to your body and coming from your heart, you may discover your head space as unusually quiet, with a vibrant stillness. Rest from thought in this stillness, aware of arising images or pictures. If you would like and are able, there is also the potential here to move beyond our individual minds out into mind transcendence. Or just simply remain in the stillness.
7. Heart Emergence Among
Drop back down to your heart, and once more out into the WeSpace. Now you are coming into the WeSpace with your whole body enlivened. Your feet and legs are energetically grounded to the earth, your spiritual womb is flowing with creativity and intuition. Your heart is transmitting in radiant connection. And your mind is settled with still clarity. Now we are ready for emergence. We can sense what arises for the other individuals as well as ourselves, for the group as a whole, and for the world. In this space, we seek not what we already know, but what we are about to know.
The Three Goals of WeSpace Whole Body Mystical Awakening
Goal One: Expanding Heart Consciousness through Deep, Loving Connection
“Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
Engaging in WeSpace practice opens our hearts to one another and to the world in new ways. Our deepest charge as Christians is to love, and on the mystical level, the experience of deep heart connection infuses us with the energy of love that we carry in our hearts. In this way, our heart consciousness is expanded.
Goal Two: Mystical oneness through Transcendent Interbeing
“I pray that they all will be one, just as you and I are one.” (John 17:21)
Jesus told us just what the quantum physicists are telling us today: We are one. Complete separation is an illusion. At our depths, underneath the cellular level, there is interbeing. WeSpace is a form of spiritual practice that seeks to actually experience this lack of separation, no boundary—not just with the vast whole of all, but also specifically and individually with one another. Can oneness be an experiential reality and not just a nice sounding idea?
Goal Three: Spiritual knowing through sensing Emergence
“When the spirit (consciousness) of truth comes, she will guide you into all truth. She will not speak on her own but will tell you what she has heard. She will speak forth.” (John 16:13)
Learning to attune ourselves to mystical knowing, both in the individual centers of spiritual knowing and from the group presences and energy fields, prepares us to sense what arises mystically from these sources. Including, but beyond our rational faculties lie wisdom and truth. In this deeper way of knowing, we can hear from God, Jesus, spiritual guides, and our own higher consciousness in the mystical realm.
